How are you settling your debt?

I know someone who got serious gambling addiction who end up in considerable amount of debt. But somehow he managed to stop gambling and get out the debt cycle. He mentioned to me, he had to try very hard to stop gambling and start paying for debt. He said he stopped spending money extravagently and he calculated his outgoing with income. Then he started paying the debt. Main thing is he contacted the credit companies and citizen advice center so that credit companies stop charging him and he gradually paid all his debt.

I saw him a few weeks ago and he is trying hard to earn more money to make up his losses during gambling. I appreciated his mental strength to get out of the debt.

Anyone here with any similar history and any advice for people with debt.
